Import ChatGPT History to Grok xAI (or Get4oBack): Export & Transfer Guide
Want to import ChatGPT history to Grok xAI, Get4oBack, or another AI chat? Start by exporting your data from OpenAI, then use the destination app's import flow when it exists. For the direct question "does Grok support importing ChatGPT conversations?", see our Grok import status guide (2026). Below: export steps and how Get4oBack import works when you need bulk restore.
Step 1: Export from ChatGPT
In ChatGPT, go to Settings (profile icon) - Data Controls - Export Data. Click Export. OpenAI will email you a download link (often within minutes; sometimes up to a few days). Download the zip file before the link expires (e.g. 24 hours). The zip contains your conversations (e.g. in conversations.json format) that you can use to import elsewhere.
Step 2: Import into your new app (Grok vs Get4oBack)
Each app has its own import process. Grok xAI often does not offer a full bulk ChatGPT export importer—verify in Grok's settings and read does Grok support importing ChatGPT conversations. For Get4oBack Pro: use the ChatGPT import option in the app to upload or provide your exported file; we process it so you can continue conversations with GPT-4o. The export from ChatGPT is standard; what varies is how each app accepts it.
Why import?
Importing lets you keep your past conversations when you move to a new AI. You do not start from zero. You can reference or continue old threads. If you are leaving ChatGPT for Get4oBack (to use GPT-4o again), Grok, or another app, an export-then-import flow is the way to bring your history with you.
Summary
Export your ChatGPT data from Data Controls - Export. Download the zip from the email. Then use your new app's import feature (e.g. Get4oBack Pro for GPT-4o, or the equivalent for Grok XAI or others) to transfer your conversation history.
